I often traveled to India between 2012 and 2015, for business reasons. I took the opportunities of these trips to visit Dehli and I spent some time in Chandni Chowk, the older district of Delhi, in December 2012. It looked like a blast from the past. I also spent time in Gurgaon, one of the modern business and residential area expanding in the outskirts of the city. Curiously, I did not shoot anything in Mumbai. I have always loved and been attracted by the surrealistic aspects of life in India, this weird blasting energy from the street, a feeling of chaos, of Kali Yuga, at least from my westerner's perspective. These series were done in preparation of a more ambitious project, that I never conducted. My intention was to draw a parallel between the urban evolution of Chinese and Indian cities. It could have been a counterpoint to the documentary projects I was conducting in China at the same time.
